December 1, 2020What do you want from your kitchen? Are you interested in design, functionality, or both? Do you have a theme that you want to carry through your home? What features are important to you? It is crucial that your space works for your family, looks amazing, and makes you feel at home each and every day. A great design is the key to pulling all of these elements together.
Without the help of an expert on kitchen design, it is hard to create a beautiful, inviting space that also works for all of your needs. Contractors are certainly useful when it comes to installation, but they likely will not be able to help you design the kitchen itself. How do you know who to hire? Pay attention to what they ask of you. It is important to us to learn about our clients’ lives and what they will do with their kitchen. The designer you work with should be able to help you bring your dreams to life, and they should also have a firm grasp on what it takes to reinvent an interior space.
Homeowners are not always sure what kind of cabinets to buy. How much money they have to spend is one consideration. What they need out of their kitchen is another consideration. Finally, their style also dictates what type of cabinetry they want. Using the existing décor to plan the cabinets is a good starting point. Frameless cabinets look great in modern homes, for example. They have a lot of interior storage, because the doors and drawers are situated close together. Many people like frameless cabinets, and their biggest selling point is that they can hold more than framed cabinets.
Framed cabinets actually do have a “frame” around them, and that frame is made of wood. It helps the cabinet be structurally sound. The hinges and the doors are both connected to the face of the frame, which makes them very sturdy. Still, the opening itself is not as big as on other cabinets; the frame does take up some storage space that would be available in cabinets without a frame.
Cabinet color is also a hot topic. White is very popular; more than half of all new kitchens feature white cabinets. We are noticing a trend, however. Many clients come to us and want to incorporate color into their cabinetry; it allows them to put a personal touch on their space and create a certain ambiance that they want for their space.
After the decision on the cabinets is made, the next step is to take a look at the backsplash and countertops. When it comes to the design of your kitchen, some cabinets will be up higher (above the counter) and some will be lower (below the counter). The counter should therefore be complementary to the cabinets, although this doesn’t mean that they have to be the same materials. You are looking for these two pieces to create a flow within the space.
