Add a guest room to your home and make the most of it
July 1, 2021Tips for remodeling your bathroom
September 1, 2021As a Belmont Home Restoration company, we are always looking for new ways to create functional spaces and beautify existing ones in our clients’ homes.
Most often, the laundry room isn’t given much attention (by choice) but funny enough, we spend quite a bit of time in them. There are many ways to make laundry less “all work, no fun”.
It’s normal for people to spend little time decorating the laundry room when there is an entire home to decorate. There could be a variety of reasons for this. It might be because the work involved in this room isn’t all that rewarding in the long run (and that it is never-ending anyway!. While you might not entertain there or meet with a friend there… it doesn’t mean you should overlook it and make it the room that is always kept closed whenever you are expecting company.
REMODEL IDEAS
We’ve found several ways to make the laundry room more appealing. It may be necessary to completely remodel some laundry rooms, while others will just need a little TLC.
The following factors can define the success of any renovation:
- Built-in cabinets or shelves
- A pretty countertop for folding clothes (we recommend a granite top from a local granite outlet)
- Tile flooring
- A built-in ironing board cabinet
- Built-in pulldown clothes drying racks
- Pull-out hampers
- A utility cabinet for housing cleaning supplies
- A pretty backsplash
- Fun light fixtures that add a pop of color or style to the room
- Under-cabinet lighting
- A sink, other than the basic laundry room sink (maybe a farmhouse sink)
- Windows to bring in some of that natural light
- A cheery paint color that brightens up the room
- Custom doors to tuck the washer and dryer away if you would like to use the space for other things as well
ORGANIZATION
In addition to being used as storage spaces, laundry rooms often give off an overwhelming vibe due to their size. You can organize your laundry room from top to bottom and make it an enjoyable place to do laundry with the right people and the right plan. Reducing clutter and mounds will reduce stress.
There are even ways to get the kids involved in the laundry process by creating strategic organization. Cubbies or bins for each member of the family can lead to each member taking care of their own laundry (at the very least, putting their clean clothes away).
MULTIPURPOSE SPACE
Has anyone ever said that the laundry room cannot be multifunctional? There are also possibilities for a craft room, pet supply area/pet wash station/pet bedroom, a bathroom, a mudroom, an office/computer station, a small indoor garden, a pantry for canned goods, a recycling center… really, the possibilities are endless!
