October 28, 2022How to Sort Out Large Projects in Order of Importance
Large home improvement projects do not always need to be undertaken simultaneously. Whether your budget doesn’t allow you to complete the entire project at once or you’re unable to deal with that much disruption at once, it’s often advisable to phase large projects. The process of creating a master plan and then dividing large projects into manageable chunks is phasing.
Priorities Come First
Now is the time to contact our office in Minnetonka to schedule the initial meeting, unless you plan on acting as your own general contractor (not recommended!). We view the initial meeting as a mutual interview to determine if you and your family are a good fit for us. During this appointment, we will discuss your vision, budget, and timeline, as well as what to expect from us.
Master Plan
For your convenience, we always consider which tasks must be addressed and completed first when developing your master plan. For instance, if you wanted to remodel all three of your bathrooms, we would want to stagger the work so that you still had access to one bathroom during the renovation. Additionally, we will not remodel your kitchen if you require a new roof first. I understand that a roof is less exciting than a kitchen, but it is more important.
Let Projects Cover Their Own Costs
Some home improvement projects offer an immediate return on investment; you should prioritize these projects early in a series of projects. If you must choose between replacing your old aluminum windows and remodeling your bathroom, for instance, new energy-efficient windows are the superior option. Your energy bills will immediately decrease, allowing you to set aside more money for your bathroom remodel.
Consider the Prospective Future
If you have ambitious plans for a particular area, consider how your current efforts will affect what lies ahead.
You may have aspirations of having a posh outdoor kitchen and living space within the next few years, but it’s currently not feasible. This year, you could concentrate on preparing your yard for the major construction! This could involve relocating septic lines, constructing a patio, or demolishing your current yard. Again, we will assist you with these specifics!
Target the Low-Hanging Fruit
Occasionally, smaller, low-cost, and even do-it-yourself improvements can have a significant impact!
New fixtures, painting, wallpapering, and minor landscape enhancements are inexpensive and have a significant impact while you focus on the big picture!
Whether you’re planning an addition, a remodel, or an outdoor entertainment area, we believe that the sooner you contact us, the better. We can help you organize your thoughts and even offer suggestions you may not have considered!
Regardless, we are here to make your dreams a reality.
